Methodology

Every useful result should have a traceable method, explicit assumptions and tests that protect it when the website changes.

From idea to published tool

  1. Confirm that a real Australian task and a distinct user intent exist.
  2. Define the inputs, output, exclusions, assumptions and foreseeable misuse.
  3. Cross-check the method against suitable primary or Australian sources.
  4. Write a versioned specification with precision and rounding rules.
  5. Test realistic examples, boundaries, unit conversions and invalid values.
  6. Review the rendered page for mobile use, accessibility, privacy and performance.
  7. Publish only after the page is useful without relying on advertising or hidden explanations.

Calculation standards

Calculations retain full supported precision internally and round only at defined presentation or ordering steps. Whole items such as tiles and boxes are rounded up where a partial unit cannot be ordered. Inputs are checked for missing, non-finite, unsafe and logically impossible values.

The current tile method converts room units to metres, adds rectangular areas, subtracts rectangular exclusions, applies the chosen waste percentage, divides by tile area or supplier box coverage and rounds the order quantity up. Content, review and corrections

Page copy is written to answer the practical task first. Search research may help identify the language people use, but it does not justify duplicate pages or unsupported claims. Sources are mapped to the decision or convention they support, and changing information is assigned a review trigger.

Material formula or meaning changes require a new specification version, updated regression evidence and an updated visible review note. Reported problems follow the corrections policy.

Quality boundaries

  • Calculator values should remain on the visitor’s device unless a future feature clearly requires and discloses otherwise.
  • Graphics explain inputs or results but do not invent a physical layout.
  • Automated accessibility checks support, but do not replace, keyboard and assistive-technology review.
  • Real-world field performance and user comprehension must be checked after a controlled preview and launch.
